A Room of One’s Own

In this project, I explored how typography influences the narrative experience by redesigning the opening and closing chapters of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own. For this project, I drew upon my personal resonance with the book and my high school years, so I want to establish a connection between the book and its young readers. I want to convey Woolf’s vibrant language and subtle metaphors while creating an atmosphere of ‘intimate conversation’. I use the physicality of the book to create a conceptual space to interpret the concept of ‘intellectual liberty’. My design uses both Chinese and English to establish a harmonious system of parallel bilingual typography.
