This project is a commissioned design for an independent publication. The client granted extensive creative freedom while requesting a size reminiscent of Japanese bunkobon-style books. The narrative revolves around the adventures of a protagonist and a dragon, set in a Japanese-inspired fantasy world.

The design concept was inspired by the Chinese characters in the title "Soap White" (皂白). In response to the client's provided cover illustration, which featured strong linear elements, I aimed to achieve a balance of information on the cover. This led to an innovative approach of using the Chinese character forms as cut-out elements. During the design process, I was delighted to discover that the character's eyes could be revealed through these cut-outs, perfectly capturing the mysterious aura of the protagonist described in the story.

For the cover material, I selected paper with a distinct fiber texture. This choice not only complements the illustration style but also enhances the overall visual and tactile experience of the design.
